Broadway Academy Wins Three 2023 ACCELY Awards

Congratulations to Broadway Academy for winning three Accely awards at the annual leadership summit held this July. The school was recognized for outstanding leadership, student attendance, teacher retention, and academic performance – taking home coveted awards including Gold School and Outstanding Leader of the Year.

Recognizing the hard work and success of our schools and school leaders is an important tradition at ACCEL Schools. While schools across the country are still recovering from challenges related to the pandemic, we have seen a surge in success from schools serving historically underrecognized communities.

“We are mission driven to make quality education available to all children regardless of geographic location or life circumstances,” said ACCEL Schools CEO Ron Packard who presented the awards on July 17. “It is an honor to recognize the staff and leadership who are putting ACCEL’s ideals into action and creating positive change in the lives of the students and communities who need it most.”

Broadway Academy received the following 2023 ACCELY awards:

Outstanding Growth in Science
The Broadway academies were recognized as having some of the highest PI scores in Science in the ACCEL Schools network.

Gold School Award
The Gold School Award recognizes the highest achieving schools in the ACCEL network. This prestigious award went to 10 schools in 2023 that demonstrated strong academic outcomes as well as positive enrollment growth.

Outstanding Growth in Science
Regional Vice President Sherree Dillions has a long history at Broadway Academy starting as principal in 2017. Since this time, she has led the school to sustained enrollment and academic growth. She was recently named ACCEL School’s first Vice President of Turnaround Schools.

Congratulations to every member of our Broadway community for contributing to our success in 2023. We are honored to accept these Accely awards on behalf of our entire team and look forward to another extraordinary school year.

Broadway Academies Ranked Among Top Schools by Cleveland Transformation Alliance

The Cleveland Transformation Alliance recently recognized the Broadway Academies for above average achievement and progress for the 2021-22 school year. The schools were ranked #23 in Achievement and #6 in Progress out of the city’s participating K-8 schools. The ranking is a measure of intentionality, teamwork, and diligence on the part of the administration, teachers, staff, students, families, and the broader community that continues to support educational excellence at the Broadway Academies. And it recognizes the significant recovery the school is making post-COVID, providing students with the educational resources, opportunities, and social-emotional support they need to experience success.

“We are so proud of our school community and are committed to continued progress as we work together on behalf of our students,” said ACCEL Schools Regional Vice President Sherree Dillions. “Since the first Broadway Academy was founded in 2011, our schools have maintained a culture of personal and collective excellence with students taking an active role in their education. The  years pandemic brought new challenges, but we have proven that our staff and our students are resilient.”

The Cleveland Transformation Alliance (CTA) is a trusted community partner working to ensure every student is engaged in a high-quality, equitable education. The CTA gives families and students the information they need to commit to their best-fit public school.

In the CTA’s 2022 Progress Report, Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb writes, “Like many cities across the United States, Cleveland faces significant challenges as we work to bounce back from the COVID 19 pandemic. The pandemic has compounded existing issues like high poverty and low education outcomes for our children, and added new and more severe barriers around mental health and social emotional development, and public safety. As with any transition or change though, our work to come back from the pandemic can also bring with it an opportunity: to not just repair our old problems, but to rebuild our civic foundations stronger and more durable than before.”

Founded in 2011, the CTA’s goals have been updated to address COVID learning losses, students’ social-emotional wellbeing, and the broader need for educational equity. For the Cleveland Transformation Alliance board of directors and staff, educational equity is prioritized through data-driven decision-making, transparency, and family-focused program development. Success beyond pandemic recovery means that every Cleveland student can access the right resources, connections, and learning opportunities to realize their full potential, regardless of their racial identity, family make-up, income, or zip code.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have an exciting upcoming school-wide live stream event in the classrooms.  It’s called NED’s Mindset Mission.  The show will be on Tuesday, October 11th 2022 at 9:00 AM.  ‍NED’s Mindset Mission is a positive behavior program. An engaging performer takes our students on an interactive educational journey filled with storytelling, illusions, yo-yo tricks and humor.  NED’s message and memorable friends inspire students, promote academic achievement, and support our school goals.  It is very important that each student is present on Tuesday, October 11th at 8:00 AM

Our school will offer students the opportunity to buy their own yo-yo.  Parents should complete the order form and return to school with payment inside the envelope.  Students will give the order form and payment to their homeroom teacher and receive their yo-yo at dismissal.  Parents can also make purchases in the main office from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM.  A yo-yo is both a mindset tool and tangible reminder of NED’s message. While learning to yo-yo, children will make mistakes, try again, and improve.  Read more at www.MindsetMission.com/yoyos.

If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the main office at 1-216-750-1202.

Sincerely,

James P. West
