Academics
At Broadway Academy, we provide a standards-based curriculum that teaches students skills for college and career readiness. Our curriculum is built on the Ohio Learning Standards (OLS) for English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies, we provide diverse opportunities for students to explore Career-Based Intervention, Character Education, and Creative Writing. These courses support creativity, character, and career awareness—key elements of a well-rounded education.
English Language Arts
Our ELA program builds confident, capable readers and writers at every grade level. Students develop strong literacy foundations through phonics, vocabulary, and grammar in the early years. As they grow, they read and analyze increasingly complex texts and learn to express themselves clearly through writing and speaking.
Math
Math instruction emphasizes both foundational skills and problem-solving abilities. Students engage in hands-on activities and apply their learning to real-world situations, progressing from basic arithmetic to more abstract concepts. Our approach helps students build confidence and prepares them for future academic success.
Science
Students experience science through interactive lessons that encourage curiosity and critical thinking. They explore life, Earth, and physical sciences while practicing observation, experimentation, and inquiry. This hands-on approach fosters a deep understanding of scientific concepts and their relevance to the world around them.
Career-Based Intervention
In middle school, students participate in a Career-Based Intervention program designed to help them identify personal strengths and set meaningful goals. They build resumes, explore potential career paths, and receive support in choosing a high school that aligns with their interests and aspirations. Mon-Fri, Grades 6-8, 1 hour long.
Character Education
Character development is woven into the student experience through lessons that emphasize discipline, responsibility, and integrity. Monthly character traits are introduced and reinforced to help students grow into thoughtful, respectful individuals.
Creative Writing
This course encourages students to express themselves through storytelling, poetry, and narrative writing. It builds both technical writing skills and confidence in self-expression.
Chess Club
Chess Club takes place 30 minutes every Mon-Fri for grades 5-8.
Instructional Model
Our school is built on a strong foundation of high expectations for academic achievement for all students. Our instructional
model has four key components to achieve strong academic results:
Individualized Instruction
Students participate in a variety of learning activities each day that individualize instruction for each subject area. Students receive whole class instruction, small group instruction, and individual instruction with teachers, technology and other curricular tools.
Properly Certified & Licensed Teachers
Our teachers meet the requirements set forth by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): Bachelor’s degree, grade-level teaching license/certificate & ability to demonstrate subject area expertise. Our teachers are supported by trainers and participate in continuous, research-based professional development. Our teachers are accountable for student learning and rewarded for high quality performance.
More Time on Task
Our students receive double the instruction in ELA and Math to provide a strong foundation for all learning. Beginning with full-day Kindergarten, our school also follows a longer school day and school year than many other schools.
Short Cycle Assessments
Student knowledge of academic standards is assessed formally and informally in short cycles by each teacher. Our teachers adjust class-level and individual instruction based on student performance in these frequent intervals.
